What it measures
PPI is the NBS producer price index for industrial products, shown here as the year-on-year change.
It moves with commodity costs and factory pricing power. A rising PPI with a flat CPI is the usual squeeze on downstream margins.
Read the print against the month it covers, not the morning it is released. NBS publishes it on its own calendar, often the same morning as CPI.
The series is the official year-on-year rate. EastMoney's BASE_SAME field is that rate; the index level itself is not what this page charts.
