China Snapshot collects publications, trending-list appearances and numeric observations over time. The browser makes those records available for inspection and reuse, with their different meanings kept intact.

Start with a question and a date range

For a policy question, search documents in English or Chinese and narrow to the issuing institution. For attention around a topic, compare its observed appearances within the same social platform. For an economic series, check the unit and reporting period before comparing values.

Keep publication and collection dates separate

A publication date is when the source says it released a document. A collection date is when China Snapshot recorded it. An observation may repeat across collections, and a monthly indicator can carry the same value for weeks. Date filters follow the date named above the table; dates use UTC.

Inspect the source before quoting

Open a record to see its original title and source link. Available document text is an extraction from that source and can lose tables, formatting or attachments. Text is shown only when available for public display. English titles aid discovery; refer to the original wording when precision matters.

Export a defined selection

Choose columns and download the current page or the rows you selected across pages. CSV keeps one record per row. JSON includes the query and export scope so you can describe what you used. Both keep only your chosen columns. Include source URLs and record IDs for citation.

Account for gaps and differences between sources

The archive contains what the collectors observed. It is not a complete register of everything published in China. Sources, collection intervals and extraction success vary. Social-list rank and heat are platform measures; they do not establish total reach or representative public opinion.
